Excellent Performance, but to What ‘End’?
09 June 2009 - Tuğgeneral (E.) Haldun SOLMAZTÜRK [USA]
In this part of the world people are not very fond of reading but they love ‘talking’. That’s why they create their own living gods –at all levels of society- out of skilfull orators –sometimes demagogues, and then worship them. It is the dominant culture of ‘relations’ not a culture of ‘merits and virtues’ which provides the basis for tribalism, secteranianism and ruling dynasties still widespread in the region, from Saudi Arabia to Kazakhistan, and to a degree even in Turkey. Excellent Performance, but to What ‘End’?

OBAMA IS COMING. HURRAY..!
30 March 2009 - Tuğgeneral (E.) Haldun SOLMAZTÜRK [USA]
A string of visits by many administration officials, or by those who claim connections to the new American administration, to include the recent much publicised visit by the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, preceded President Obama’s highly anticipated visit to Turkey on April 5th. Regarding the meaning, scope and potential results of this allegedly ‘historic’ visit, one of these visitors politely suggested caution; “I would not overread this (visit)”. Perhaps some sober thought rather than euphoria should rule the day. OBAMA IS COMING. HURRAY..!
