In fact, the astonishing and illegal armed intervention at 31 May 2010 on Gaza Humanitarian Aid Convoy for some reason, attempts to render a Turkish-Israeli conflict. In my opinion, it is more of an insult against the UN, in other words, to the whole world, to all the NGO’s than Turkey. What makes Turkey special in this case is the presence of Islamist oriented Turkish NGO’s.

 

The Humanitarian Aid Convoy had people from many nations including Turks to Germans, Spanish to Greeks, Italian to Swiss, Bosnian to British. All of them are not Muslims as considered. What they had in common was their wish to support the urgent need of Palestinians from Gaza Strip for medicine, doctor and food against the strained Israeli sanctions against Gaza Strip since the beginning of 2007. This humane approach is a just a general action belonging to people of all religions, all sects, even to atheists having humane views.

 

This noncompliant initiative of Israel had hit the bottom to the already deteriorating Turkish-Israeli relations as a result of the Israel’s armed attack against Gaza Strip on 27 December 2008. After this, one should have to wait for a long time to observe the previous diplomatic relations. However, only before 1,5 years Turkey was able to establish mediation processes between Israel and Syria. Today, it became impossible. What makes this impossible is Israel’s assertion of threat against its own security and unlawful and anomalous attitudes to the other countries and other people.

 

For a recovery in Turkish-Israeli relations, making an apology and a compensation from the Israeli government, bringing the offenders to justice after an apparent inquiry shall play a crucial role. However, although 36 hours have passed after the incident, Israel has not attempted to take such an action, on the quite contrary, Minister of Internal Security is defending Israel’s position. Yet, they intervened to the boat in the twilight and without warning like a hostage operation or an occupation of a contraband vessel retreating with firearms to the angry people who want to resist with sticks. They want to reveal a man with a single small knife as “armed”. How will a jackknife help against troops of a specialized force?

 

Substantially, a resolution should be taken within the scope of the UN against the unlimited outburst of Israel in the region. However, since its foundation Israel is protected by the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council; the US, Britain and France. This time at least it will be safe under the US veto shield. Yet if Obama does not veto once, he may have his name written in gold letters on the history of the United States of America. However, it does not seem likely as he takes the pulse of American electorate for the incoming 2012 elections.
